Everybody has those little clues at the beginning of each week about how their week will go. Will you find $10 on the ground and have good luck for your entire week? Or will your alarm never go off Monday morning and you have to endure an entire week from hell?
Well, the later was exactly how my week started two weeks ago. And it was not a walk in the park for the next five days. From housing drama to my roommate getting sick I was ready to collapse under my covers and never emerge again. I kept texting my parents that when I got home next week all I was going to do was sleep.
This week, however, has started out differently. And it seems like it’s going to be pretty amazing. I had walked into the girl's bathroom on my floor and found that we had shower curtains again! Yes, you read that right, shower curtains.
Now if I have talked to you at all since starting my second semester you will know that I have complained about the lack of shower curtains in the bathroom. They just mysteriously disappeared over winter break and no one knew where they had gone.
Let me set the scene real quick: you are showering in a communal shower, the walls are covered in hair, the drain is clogged so you’re standing in dirty water, and now you’re cold because the shower curtains from the stall are gone. Now, this causes you to set the water temperature to be extremely hot, and when somebody flushes the toilet it feels like your skin will burn off.
Welcome to college, where everyday is a new experience. The feeling that I got when I walked into the bathroom this morning and saw these brand new shower curtains was indescribable. They are white and shiny and no longer a yellow color with mold on them.
I immediately ran back to my room to tell my roommate about the new curtains and then I texted a picture to my parents. That’s how excited I was about these shower curtains. Hopefully, they stay this beautiful white for the duration of my stay here.
I know sometimes people complained about the shower curtains. Because if you really think about it, this piece of plastic has endured countless showers and seen too many days. But just the prospect of finally getting to be warm in the shower again and not having to cower in the corner to get the warm water is really uplifting to my week.
So, I guess my luck can really turn around. Going from a completely terrible week and calling my mom three times in one day, to having something to be excited about and a possible snow day in the near future. It’s the little things in life that can uplift your day and help to see the light at the end of the tunnel (spring break).
If anything seems like it’s impossible, just look for the little things in each day. Maybe they’ll help your week become a little bit better.
