Growing up Seaworld was a second home to me. I spent almost every weekend there and would even go at night during the week, I spent birthdays and Halloweens and even a Christmas Eve inside this park.
Hell, I even slept there on the floor of the shark encounter one time. As a kid you don't know the behind the scenes, everyone we met truly cared about these animals and wanted to educate people about them. Through all my time there I never saw this evil place I saw the place where i could go ride my favorite ride or eat at the Shipwreck Cafe or go say hello to my pal Shamu,
Then I watched "Blackfish."
I spent most of that film in tears wondering how I was so blind to the neglect the animals that i loved so much were facing. I went to those shows I cheered in the bleachers I was a part of the problem. Feeding this machine that was out to destroy the most majestic animals on this planet.
I wrote countless essays for school encouraging people to boycott this place I hold so near and dear to my heart I had a fuck Seaworld bracelet and stickers that adorned my mirror and was truly on board.
I feel Differently now.
I feel Differently about the park then I did when I was both 8 and 17.
SeaWorld has stopped breeding orcas and is phasing out their orca shows. What is there in the parks is all they will ever get.
So why not boycott them?
Well here's the thing, they are not going to let the whales go that's plain and simple the whales in there captivity will remain there until they die. That is facts. Money from ticket sales DOES go to maintaining tanks and giving them healthcare and food. So sure boycott Seaworld make it even more of a hell for the animals that can't leave.
If it's really about the animals. Make it about the animals.
