Nearly three months after seeing it in theaters, myself and many others are still thinking about 'The Greatest Showman.' This film quickly moved to the top of my favorites list for multiple reasons.
For starters, Hugh Jackman is next level. He’s not even my celebrity crush, he’s just the coolest guy, and possibly a superhuman. He can successfully play any part, flawlessly. From being the tough guy with a soft heart in X-Men, and Logan, to his effortless performance as Jan Valjean in Les Miserables. Yet he has now given his best performance to date, playing the ever dreaming business man in 'The Greatest Showman'.
Honestly, this film was a game changer. After seeing it, I’ve come to the conclusion that there is nothing that Hugh Jackman can't do. I have also determined that Zac Efron did in fact sing in the High School Musical movies because he kills it in this. Everything from the visuals, to the choreography, the soundtrack, to the entire plot were all incredibly entrancing.
Let's back up to the soundtrack. Believe me when I tell you, every song on the album will be your jam. This was the case for me, so much so, that I played it on repeat for about a month and a half. Granted, I have always been a theater person, and musicals get me hype, I’m convinced everyone could jam to these songs. The writers who wrote the music for this film are also the same people who wrote for La La Land. So if you liked that movie, you’ll love this.
Without giving away any major spoilers, the story follows P.T. Barnum (the man who created the Barnum & Bailey Circus) in his quest to create the life he and his wife had always dreamt of having. Things take a turn somewhere along the way, and Barnum confuses reaching fame and fortune, with achieving overall happiness. He mixes up his priorities, and ends up paying for it. Things hit the ceiling to say the least, but I will leave you with that to see how the rest plays out.
This film ultimately inspires those who are watching it to be dreamers. It brought back so many nostalgic feelings in my own life, and made me really hopeful about the future. I couldn't tell you how a movie was able to do this but it did. It manages to encompass the importance of friendship, determination, and self acceptance all in 1 hour and 45 minutes of pure magic.
If I haven't convinced you yet, I'll leave it to the trailer which I have linked below. Go see it tonight while it's still in theaters! You'll probably find me there TBH.
