Second semester finals week. These four words are enough to suck the motivation out of any college student. Here are the seven stages of second semester finals week as told by different characters on the show The Office:

1) Realizing how close the final is.

Finals week sneaks up on the best of us. Who has the time to check a calendar with all the other things going on in college. Better start studying, or put it off for a few more days.

2) Starting to review the study guide.

The test is coming up, you should probably start going over the things you need to know for the final. The beginning of the study guide is easy and puts you under a false illusion that you might be okay for the exam.

3) Calculating the lowest grade you can get on the final while still passing.

Instead of actually reviewing for the test, many decide a better use of their time is calculating the grades in their classes and seeing the lowest score they can get on the final to still keep the grade they want in the class.

4) Asking to start a study group.

You send out a mass email to everyone in your class to start a study group and realize that A) either no one out of the 200+ people you emailed answers you or B) you form a study group, get to the library, and realize either no one is focused or everyone that answered your email knows less about the subject than you do.

5) Realizing you should have started studying days ago.

So, admittedly, maybe the night before the final was not the optimal time to do the bulk of your studying for the test. The further you get into the course material you start realizing how little you know and start preparing for the long night you’re about to have.

6) Heading to your final after you spent the entire night studying.

The entire night before was spent trying to teach yourself an entire semester of business calculus or General Biology 1. At this point your body is composed of 70% Red Bull instead of water and all of your energy is artificially created from energy drinks instead of sleep. Let’s hope it was worth it when you get your scores back on your final.

7) The feeling when you’re finally done with your finals and can start on your journey home.

It’s done, by some miracle you survived. Finals are over and you officially never have to worry about those elective classes that you picked since they seemed easy but ended up being the bane of your existence. Now it’s time to pack up the car, head home for the summer, and not worry about classes for the next couple months.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
