My Seven Pets & I

I am one of seven; it is me, three brothers, and three sisters. Yes, we all came from the same parents. Nine of us all live in the same house. I never thought I would become part of a such a large family. What is even more interesting is that I never thought I would have seven pets either...

We have had our cat Callie around for years. She is 12 years old. She is sweet but can also be feisty. She loves the outdoors and she enjoys snuggling with me in my bed. She also enjoys being petted but does not like being annoyed by other animals. She is definitely more of a fan of humans than pets. The most interesting part about Callie is she likes to lay on her back when it's nice out; it almost looks like she is tanning. She also strangely enjoys going out in the snow, but eventually comes back when she realizes it is too cold out!

Tasha is 11 and a Golden Retriever. She is a very chillax dog. Like Callie, she does not like being involved with other animals but does not mind being petted by humans. However, she is very demanding and is a bad listener! She demands certain spots to sit on and barks when she wants to go out. She also likes to stay outside. She loves laying on her back and just moving around. She is also a tanner. Tasha can also get grumpy though; she acts like she is queen! She is a very lovable dog. She is, unfortunately, getting old though and has trouble getting up on tall beds to sleep on so we have to help her. She also just got over a fever and infection in her foot; it was sad and scary. Thankfully she is okay now, and still as cute but grumpy as ever!

Cream is our other Golden Retriever and is literally the sweetest dog I have ever met. She loves to play with toys, loves giving kisses, loves being petted, loves playing-- she is just so lovable. She is nine years old. When I was little, my mom, my siblings, and I were begging my dad to get her. She was just too sweet and too cute. He finally caved in and he is glad he did. Cream, unfortunately, has epilepsy but she has been doing well. When she has her seizures we take great care of her. Cream is also a great listener and is just affectionate. She is my favorite (don't tell the other animals!).

Rocko (AKA Rocky), is our cute, little, but very overprotective Yorkshon. He is seven years old. He has two sides; he can be very lovable but then very mean! He only likes certain people. Some people he just does not like. For instance, he does not like my older sister and my neighbor. He has to investigate you and every new person he sees precisely to make sure they are safe. Sometimes he barks at me until I leave the room when he knows who I am! Other times he will come up and kiss me; I do not get it! At the end of the day though, he is still pretty darn cute. However, he likes to pee in the house still. Sometimes he cannot help it because of a disease he has, so I cannot blame him all the time.I love when in the middle of the night I hear a scratching from him at my door to come sleep with me. However, he only does this when his favorite caretaker is not home, which is my sister Gabby. Rocko's favorite is definitely my sister Gabby (Gabby prefers to call him Rocko, not Rocky and is literally obsessed with him). She was the one that persuaded my mom to bring him home and keep it a secret from my dad until he came back from work. The look on my dad's face when he found out my mom got another animal... However, he ended up loving him, just as we all do today.

Andre (AKA Dr. Dre) is CRAZY. Sometimes when he's really bad we refer to him as a**hole (it's a love thing though). That's a beagle for you. This dog does not know how to listen for his life. He jumps up and grabs food, goes on the table, eats out of the garbage bins, runs out the door, and this does not even cover half of the bad things he does! Andre is 6 years old and is fast. Although he can be a bad dog, he is very cute and lovable. He loves to climb right on your lap and just sit on you. He also loves hugs and giving kisses. He is unbearable to walk cause he goes so fast but he still loves his walks. He enjoys watching tv with you as well and sits in the cutest positions. Although he is a bad listener, he is the cutest dog.

My new kitten Oliver (AKA Ollie) will be 1 in May! He is very similar to Andre. As if we didn't have enough pets, my sister and mother decided to bring home this cute little nugget. (My dad wasn't too happy). This cat, in all honesty, has to be the weirdest and craziest cat I have ever witnessed. This cat will eat anything; he likes to go into the bread basket and bite through the plastic bags to eat the bread. He also can eat so much other food; chicken, veggies, even brownie batter. I honestly have never seen a cat eat human food. This cat will crawl on the table and put his paw up and hit your fork while you're eating.Ollie also likes to run fast around the house and come out of no where. He will climb on my legs then sprint after he does so; like I said, he's weird. One time I was in my mom's bedroom and we opened the cabinet and he was hiding in there. He also chews and plays with so many weird things. He chews the string from the shades, plays with pens on the floor, will jump in the air if you dangle a string, and will even claw at my foot when I dangle it! However, this cat is so cute and so lovable, just like every other pet I have! He also loves to cuddle sometimes and he is just so playful! I am glad Oliver is part of the family.

Lastly, this is technically my sister's hamster but I make her part of the family. Her name is Trixie and she is FIESTY. She does not like to be held or played with. She will nibble at you. In her defense though, my sister needs to try to play with her more and put her in the ball; maybe she wouldn't be so cranky! She loves to go on the wheel all night; I hear her through my room! Overall, she's a cute little nugget but needs to stop being so cranky!

I obviously have so many unique and diverse pets, who are all cute and lovable! I wouldn't trade them for the world.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
