Service Learning Project, Or Life Changing Experience?

Have you ever wanted to make a difference in the world? What better way to do so than to give your time to help out those in need. Today I will inform you on how I made a difference by just sharing my time. I will tell you where I did my community service project, what I did there, and how it all affected me. Although donating one’s time to an organization can get overlooked, the need is still there, and there are many places that can desperately use the help.

While I was looking for a place to donate my time for my speech class service learning project, it was brought to my attention that there was going to be a Relay for Life. Relay for ife has been going on at Keystone for three years now. I first spoke with Taylor Tavares, and she said she would love if I can help out and work the event. Relay for Life is a relay to raise awareness for cancer. It is associated with the American Cancer Society. These relays are usually to help fundraise money for this organization. Every year it is held at the soccer and track field. People can come out and enjoy good music, food, and walk to support or remember loved ones with cancer. It is a great way to be part of the solution.

Even though there were many people there to help out, it seemed like there was a lot to set up. I worked in the food station along with three other girls. We had some hot dogs, burgers, and other assorted snacks. First, we set up the stand and figured out where to place the food. I was at a more interactive station making popcorn and cotton candy for anyone who wanted some. At first the event went by slow but as more and more people showed up, it seemed like the food line would never end. The girls I was working with could not catch a break either. Everyone seemed to be stuck to preparing one thing, because that was the only way the line would start to move. Over all there was an amazing turn out and Taylor said we raised more this year than ever before.

This affected me to change my attitude toward life. I found a greater appreciation for different organisms. Personally, I believe I will keep perusing Relay for Life because I want to keep making a difference and helping those who need the help. This fundraiser hit me right at home since I have had a majority of close friends pass away too soon because of cancer. I really enjoyed learning that there was a club that is fundraising and helping those who have cancer. It is about time we fight back against this deadly disease. I was very happy I got to experience an amazing event such as this one, and I would recommend trying to attend this event to everyone.

In closing, this is an experience that will stick with me forever. Now that you have heard of what relay is, what I did there, and how it affected me, I hope you all will be able to give it a try and help someone who needs it.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
