Hello everyone and anyone that will be inclined to read what I have to say.
Let us begin by first understanding the current situation in which we all live in. Technology has become a dependent in our daily lives and this itself is not such a bad thing, however, I find it quite obvious that due to this highly necessary technological infrastructure, people tend to lose their grasp on humility and our creative intent as humans.
What I'm saying is, people are forgetting how to live because of technology. And it's hard for us to notice because no one of relevance is saying, "hey, maybe we're too involved with technology."
Apps and video games have engulfed the youth. Pokemon Go is actually something I would like to address because of how it exposes the institutionalized problems of our reliance on technology as well as our inability to focus on the physicality of life.
This is why I want people to start reading books more. As a student at the University of Iowa and being here for four years, I can confidently say that the majority of the student body chooses not to read books leisurely. Instead, we center our focuses on alcohol, parties, bars, and of course, smart phones and technology.
We are losing our humanity and understanding of acceptance. Literature itself, is an established foundation that has been through hell and back throughout history. And in doing so, cultivated a safe haven for artists and writers to feel protected and secure. However, when we remove this element from day to day lives, we become less human and more robotic. We lose the adventures and the intricate love stories, we lose the sense of coming of age as well as the sense of growth. If we eliminate the act of reading a book entirely, we will no longer be the majestic and prosperous species we claim to be.
Please, go out and read a book. Inscribe it into your life. I guarantee that you will never regret it and it will only benefit your life and who you are as a person. Plus, being well read is f'ing sexy.
