Look, I'm a music fanatic, anyone who knows me can back up that claim. I listen to it constantly: to and from class, in my room, doing homework, eating, working out, etc. I listen to all different kinds of genres, so you would think I'd never get tired of listening to it, but I'll admit I do.
I don't know if it's because I'm listening to the same five or so playlists over and over again, or if it's just because I need to change up what I'm mindlessly listening to in the background. About a month ago one of my favorite bloggers put some of her favorite podcasts on her Instagram account, and so I looked into a few of them. I first looked into Betch Slapped and Gals on The Go which were easy to listen to and made the time pass quickly because it was effortless listening. I began to listen to podcasts whenever I went to the gym, mainly because I finished my Netflix show, Friends, and I was tired of listening to music. Podcasts immediately became my new favorite thing to listen to.
As I continued to look into more podcasts, I remembered in tenth grade my English class listened to the first season of the Serial podcast, and how amazing it was. I immediately queued up the first episode of season three as soon as I got on the elliptical, and in that hour-long episode, I remembered why I had loved the podcast so much. I'll admit I tried to listen to season two but didn't get quite as into it as I wanted to, so I started on season three instead.
Sarah Koenig, the host of the podcast, does an amazing job of giving the listeners exquisite details about every story she tells. You're never left in the dark about anything, and there's never a dull moment. I've been obsessed with season three already, and have started to make my workouts longer to make sure I fit in the just under an hour-long episode.
The first season is all about the murder of Hae Min Lee supposedly done by her ex-boyfriend Adnan Syed. The second season all about Bowe Bergdahl, a U.S. soldier, who had been imprisoned by the Taliban for five years finally going home. And the third season is all about the Cleveland criminal justice system, specifically focusing on all of the ordinary cases that go through it.
If you're an adamant podcast listener, or just need something new to listen to, I strongly suggest starting with Serial and start with season one to hear exactly how this podcast started.
