Phoenix Arizona is known for it's fine arts, tourism, and it's cuisine, but now this has all changed. Phoenix is now under attack by an unidentified serial killer. This so called serial killer has already killed seven people. These shootings have been taking place in Maryvale, a neighborhood filled with strip malls and chain-link fences in resident's yards. At night you would say this is a pretty dangerous neighborhood to be walking in. Unfortunately, Maryvale did not scare this serial killers first victim, Manuel “Manny” Castro Garcia who was sitting in his car at his girlfriend's house when he was shot to death. According to records, this is the first serial killer in Phoenix in 10 years. The serial killer targets victims with what appears to be no actual motive. All of the victims, including a 12-year-old girl, were all in cars or shot outside homes. All of the victims were either Hispanic or black. A 16-year-old boy and a 21-year-old young man were also shot but have survived. These two survivors have worked with the police in developing a composite sketch of this serial killer.
The suspect in the serial street shootings is described by the surviving victims as a lanky Hispanic male under 5 feet, 10 inches tall. The shooting first began in March, where a 16-year-old was shot while walking in the street. The next night the second victim was also shot but survived. After those two failed attempts, the shooter never seems to miss. June 12th was the last reported shooting which claimed three more lives. The sister of one of the slain victims had this to say: "It's unbelievable that there is this monster that has done so much harm, that nobody is coming forward," "All of these people were so good. Good people with good families. And now they are gone in the blink of an eye because of a monster."The police believe some one out there knows the suspect or has information that could bring an end to this case or at least a break but, no one is speaking up. Jonathan Howard of the Phoenix Police Department has stated: "We want the public to know that it will take a tip from them to stop this violence." CNN law enforcement analyst Art Roderick, a former U.S. Marshal, has theorized that the suspect is either keeping up with news on his crimes or he has moved on to another location.
One year ago Arizona was rocked with the Freeway shootings that were taking place. Many people speculate that those year old shootings could be related to the current shootings, but Bart Graves of the Arizona Department of Public Safety has assured everyone that there is no possible way that the two incidents are related. If anyone does have any information on these shootings the Maricopa County District Attorney's Office are offering a $30,000 reward so that this serial killer case can be solved and the suspect brought to justice.
