Most of the time you read an article written from a college freshman’s point of view about your senior year of high school. While there is nothing wrong with that, I’m offering a different perspective, from high school senior to high school senior.
Going into senior year, the excitement you feel cannot be described. You have finally made it to your last year of high school and you are only nine months away from walking across the stage that will give you endless opportunities, but in those nine months, there is a lot that must be done. Yes, school becomes very stressful very fast because you have to balance college applications, schoolwork, sports, extracurricular, volunteering, sleep, and a social life. No matter how stressful it is, you can breathe a huge sigh of relief once you have gotten through all the applications. As a senior, I think one of the most important parts of your year is to make as many memories as you can. Go to the Friday night football games (every single one), attend homecoming and take lots and lots of pictures, attend basketball games and every other sport you can, go to your school's talent show or charity events, and most importantly, go to prom. At prom, take it all in and have a blast with your friends. It is one of the last times you will all be together. Senior year is all about taking chances, ones you may never have taken before. Make new friends and step outside your comfort zone. It will definitely pay off in the end. But above all, do not wish your time away in the familiar building. That building has seen your triumphs and defeats, and occasionally has betrayed you, but welcomed you with open arms most of the time. Do not take the comfort you feel when walking into that building for granted because you will have to start completely new in only a couple months.
So as I sit here writing this article and think about the month of school that I have left, I feel nervous and excited. I am excited that it is finally my turn to go out and have a completely new adventure as I go off to college, but I am nervous being away from what I know and being thrown into a completely new situation. I also think about the past eight months of my senior year. I sit here and reflect on my last year of high school and all the memories I have made this year come flooding back like my senior night, homecoming, basketball games, spirit week, and my friends.
So as you begin the next chapter, seniors, remember the good memories because they won’t fade quickly and remember the bad too and be thankful you have has those “bad” experiences to shape you as a person and help shape your future. Remember everything bad happens for a reason! If you don’t see the results right away you will down the road. Good luck seniors the world is your oyster! To you juniors reading this, get ready to balance all the things on your plate, but more importantly get ready to make lifelong memories and don’t wish your last year of high school away. Most importantly do not get caught up in all the planning for next year. Live in the moment, the moment that is your senior year, because it goes by all to quickly.
