They always say college was the best four years of their life...
Freshman year was filled with making new friends down the hall in your dorm, looking overly nice for the first day of class, never handing your clicker to anyone else because you never skipped, and getting butterflies in your stomach when Josh in Alpha Sig gave you a quick glance at your first fraternity party. *Lol and we all know what he ended up turning out to be*
Sophomore year you finally felt like you could really call this place your home. You move into your first apartment with your best friends, finally start to finish up those annoying gen-eds, and score some freshmen to help you swipe into the dining hall for a free meal. You realize you only have two more years left and decide it's time to pick a major. *knowing it will just only change 4 more times*
Junior year rolls around *even though you're technically still a sophomore by credits, but who's counting right* and you can't believe this is the start of your 20's. It sounded so glamorous when you were younger, only to find out its filled with sleepless nights in the library, gpa calculating as final grades roll in, and reminiscing on the times you actually enjoyed fraternity parties a million years ago. Now you're just ready to get to your beloved senior year and bounce out of this place.
Finally.... SENIOR YEAR. The year we never thought we would see but somehow stumble upon. It's crazy to think time flew by this fast but oh how ready we are to finally not eat ramen noodles for dinner every night, steal toilet paper from public bathrooms, watch tv off makeshift stands, and not live in student-living apartments anymore!
You plan out your schedule and....wait. Hold on. That can't be right. I thought I had enough credits?? Dang it...what if I fit some in over the summer? Can you do that? I need to meet with my advisor....like tomorrow. Isn't this their job anyways??
To every senior not graduating this May...
Things happen.
Whether it was a major change, a failed class, an unplanned major life change, or just simply a mistake, you're not alone.
As I watch some of my best friends graduate this May it's safe to say I am a little jealous. I wish I could leave this place on time, but you know what?
A degree is a degree. It's an accomplishment. You were the one who stayed up late all those nights studying. You were the one who made the most out of this amazing experience. And you were the one who decided the major you would be happy with even if it did take you a little extra time.
And you are the one who WILL graduate. Whether it be on time, or even 5 years later...having a college education is such an accomplishment in life and you should be so proud of yourself for coming this far.
And hey,
did they really think they could get rid of me that fast? XOXO
