Let's make a collective agreement to make 2017 a year of self-love, okay? A year of accepting ourselves for who we are and doing things because we want to, not because anyone else wants us to. Don't let anybody tell you that it's vain to think that you are beautiful. That's just a ridiculous thing that society has drilled into our heads. Never be afraid to look in the mirror and know that you are a beautiful person, regardless of size, shape, gender, and color.
Accept your uniqueness because let's be honest: there's not another person like you on this planet. There is nothing wrong with being awkward or a little weird. Tripping up stairs is endearing, and bein able to laugh at yourself is one of the most valuable traits out there. Know your worth -- never give any part of you away for free. You are a human being, and you are worth more than you know.
Know your strengths, and don't be ashamed to be confident in them. Know your weaknesses too, and never stop trying to turn them into strengths. The beauty of self-love is knowing your flaws and accepting them, turning into things you're aware of and accept rather than things you try to hide under the carpet.
Plan for yourself where you want to be by the end of the year. Whether that be mental stability, a positive body image, or a new career, as long as its something positive then you will receive positive results. And don't be afraid when things don't go as planned: there's nothing wrong with taking a different road than you had planned. Some of the most fun times in life are when you get a little bit lost and have to improvise to find your way home again.
One of the biggest components in learning to love yourself is weeding out any negative forces. This will hurt, but it will feel much better in the long run. Whether it's a friend you've outgrown, or a significant other who isn't so significant anymore, learning to find the negative people in your life is a very hard and honestly weird process. There are going to be people who don't know how to love you, that's just a fact of life in this unfair, mixed up world we live in. And honestly, don't be afraid to let them go. There's nothing to gain from you tugging on their coattails begging them to love you.
There's true power in loving yourself. And while it may be a long road, it's a road worth traveling. And it won't happen all at one: you will pick up little things that you love along the way which will simply accumulate.
2016 was rough for all of us. Let's take ourselves back in 2017.
