6 Self-Care Tips That Actually Help

We all have those days where we just need something to refresh us. I have found that scheduling a self-care day once a week is the best way to destress and regroup from everything life throws at me.

But, I make sure my self-care sessions are actually productive by making my mental health the focus.

Start with meditation.

Jared Rice

The first step to my self-care routine is to start with meditation. This cleanses my mind and balances my thoughts in a way I'm not normally able to during the week.

When I finish my meditation I feel much more at peace with myself. I've also noticed a considerable boost in my confidence since I've started.

Clean your space.

Alisa Anton

Reorganize your desk, make your bed, or just take care of whatever clutter is in your room. Something that can be a huge distraction in your life is having a messy room.

So just take a few minutes out of your self-care time and use it to make your area look nicer.

Talk to your friends or family.

ROOM

It really helps me to reach out to people who love me, and it means a lot to them as well. It is especially meaningful if you call someone you haven't seen in a while.

When I'm feeling down it's usually because I'm distancing myself from others, so a single call to my grandma can change my entire perspective on life.

Make a small to-do list of things you need to accomplish.

Glenn Carstens-Peters

Don't overwhelm yourself, but give yourself a small schedule so you feel more motivated to do something.

Cook a balanced meal for yourself.

Katie Smith

It's amazing what a decent meal can do for me. I'm in college, and I don't eat as well as I should. Making just one meal a week at home means I know exactly what's in it. It also gives me a slight challenge, and I feel good about myself when I make something I enjoy.

Give yourself a pep talk.

Sydney Rae

Stand in front of the mirror and empower yourself like you would empower a friend. Even if you don't believe it at first, eventually you will.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
