Life is overwhelming, especially when you're in college. Your entire life is turned upside-down, and it's an awkward time in your life. Not to mention all the learning you have to do.

You have to be a student and learn 4-6 different subjects. You have to learn a new lifestyle and how to be independent. You have to learn how to be an adult and take care of yourself.

So here are 11 self-care tips that even the busiest of us can do:

1. Make your bed every morning.

This simple task easily becomes second nature. Completing the first task of the day is not only a moral booster but it is so refreshing coming home to a made up bed, especially after a long day.

2. Take a deep breath.

First thing in the morning, on the walk to class, or during a cram session, taking a moment to focus on your breathing helps us calm the storm. If you have an apple watch, check out the Breathe app on it.

3. Treat yo self.

Every now and then you need a pick-me-up. Go out a get yourself something nice.

4. Have a day to yourself.

Take one day of the week and relax. Do something that you enjoy! Whether it's staying in and watching Neflix all day or going on an adventure, use this as a chance to unwind and clear your mind.

5. Go to the gym.

I know you are thinking, why in the world would I want to do that? Going to the gym and exercising is a key to a healthy life, but working out all of your frustrations and stress is even better.

6. Have a cheat day.

If you are someone who is embracing their New Year's resolutions and committing to a healthy lifestyle (because no one likes the d-word), allow yourself a cheat day. You aren't going to destroy your progress with one meal, just like you won't gain progress with only one meal.

7. Pamper yourself.

Choose a random night and allow yourself some pampering. Take a bubble bath. Do a face mask. Relax.

8. Enjoy the little things.

Whether it's finding a dollar on the ground or making an A on a test you thought you bombed, embrace the good little things that happen throughout the day. Sometimes that's the only thing that gets you through it.

9. SLEEP.

Regulating your sleep schedule reduces stress and keeps us happy and healthy. Yes, you are going to pull all-nighters preparing for tests. It's college and it happens. However, don't let that become a habit and continuously wreck your schedule.

10. Do little acts of cleaning.

I know first hand that when I get busy and stressed, my room gets messy. However, one way to prevent a build-up of clutter is by taking a few extra minutes to clean up as you go. Before you get in the shower, put your clothes in the laundry basket; when you finish eating, rinse that plate and put it in the dishwasher, etc.

11. Let go and Let God (or whomever you believe in )

Stress-less, pray more. Give all your worries to Him and have faith in His plan. I know that it is so hard to stop worrying about life and current events, but by having faith, you are letting go of some of those stressors that ultimately come back and bite you in the butt.

I know that after reading all of this, you are probably thinking "Oh, I don't have time for that. I am too busy. This girl doesn't know what she is talking about, I bet she isn't even that busy."

Yes, yes I am. We all are. Between taking 18 hours this semester, working 15 hours a week, devoting time to my sorority and philanthropic events weekly, and still having to make time for my homework, friends/family, sleep, boyfriend, etc., I know what it is like to be stressed.

Everyone has different stressors in their life and different things on their plate, but we are all stressed and busy. These are somethings that helped me get my life together and accomplish more without compromising the important stuff.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
