Finals week is an (understandably) very stressful time of the year. From exams, to projects, to papers, to continuing to juggle our usual responsibilities, it can be VERY easy to feel overwhelmed and overworked. However, the hectic nature of finals week is no excuse for neglecting our biggest responsibility – taking care of ourselves! Here are some tips for self-care during this crucial point of the semester:

1. Take frequent breaks

While it can be tempting to just "muscle through" studying and assignments, it's far from healthy. Our eyes, minds, and bodies all need periodic breaks to recharge, which will in turn actually make us more productive and effective than we would have been if we just pushed through. A great way to remind yourself to take breaks is through apps like "Stand Up!" It is free and you can set reminders to go off at various intervals.

2. Remember to eat

This may seem like a silly concept, but I know for me it can be very easy to forget about food when I get very busy and focused on working. However, food is extremely important, and it is imperative to take time to eat meals and snacks. Try not to eat while doing your work; make separate breaks so you can eat mindfully.

3. Take time to do things you enjoy

While studying and doing assignments should definitely be a priority, taking time to do what makes you happy and what makes you relaxed should be just as important. Whether it is writing in a journal or watching some Netflix, finding time to do something that brings you joy, even if it's only for an hour each day, is a great way to reduce stress.

4. Remember that grades are not the be-all-end-all

At the end of the day, there is much more to life than a GPA. It's important to always strive for your best, however it is also important to realize that your best is all you can do, and your best also isn't always an A or a B. Try not to let yourself get too beaten down if your results this semester aren't what you wanted or expected. There will always be another chance, and regardless of the results, in 10 years do you want to remember freaking out about school, or do you want to remember loving yourself and your life?

All in all, it's very easy to get overwhelmed during finals, however this doesn't need to be the case! There are many things that you can do to care for yourself and practice self-love, even during this crazy, hectic time. This finals week, remember to make yourself and your well-being your number 1 priority!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
