In this day and age, college students and young professionals are often told how important to work hard. However, while it is important to work hard for what you want, there's nothing wrong with taking a break or needing to relax. Human beings aren't the Energizer Bunny- we need to rest sometimes.
If you're tired, sit down, lie down, or take a nap. If you're hungry, get something to eat. If you feel lonely or are craving a conversation, call or text a friend or family member. Feeling uncomfortable? Change, take or take a shower. There's nothing wrong with caring for yourself.
Obviously, I'm not saying that you should stop everything and put on a face mask in the middle of work, or to drop everything and go home to take a nap. In some cases, you might have to wait before taking time for yourself. But if you're feeling stressed at work, or having a bad day in general, it's okay to decide that you just want to spend the evening at home reading your favorite book or listening to your favorite music.
If you're not sure what to do to relax, here are some suggestions:
1. Drink some green tea.
2. Take a warm shower or bath.
3. Stretch or do some yoga.
4. Put on a face mask or some lotion.
5. Do something you enjoy or something you're good at.
6. Go for a walk or a run.
7. Cuddle with a pet or a significant other.
8. Talk to a friend or a family member, either in person or on the phone.
9. Take a power nap.
10. Try meditating, or just sitting comfortably in a quiet space.
There's nothing wrong with self-care. If you want to put time aside to meditate, put on a face mask, or even take a nap every day, there's nothing wrong with that. If you feel stressed out or anxious, don't ignore that feeling. While it is important to work and study, taking care of yourself is important too.
Even something as simple as taking a shower can be a relaxing and soothing way to end your day. You're not a machine -- you need to take breaks from work every once in a while and take some time for yourself.
