Our modern life has become consumed with acts of violence, aggression, hatred, and disagreement. Everyday something terrible seems to happen and what was deemed impossible yesterday, becomes possible today. In light of the recent tragedies and heartache our country has faced, how do we stay positive? How do we wake up each morning and motivate ourselves to better our community and the lives of others, especially those negatively impacted by the aforementioned tragedies? It is difficult. It often seems as though there’s no point in trying to “fix” the problem because it is too large for a single individual. So why even try if I cannot make an impact? The truth is, one person can make an impact. It is kindness that fuels the fire for change and can create a ripple effect that spreads from the community, to the town, to the state and further, to the entire nation.
It is the single act of kindness such as holding the door or smiling to a stranger that can completely reverse someone’s mood or negative intentions. That is why it is essential that we, as individuals and as a collective community, remember that each day spreading kindness will lead us closer to a peaceful world. It is with kindness that we move forward from the tragedies, taking each day as a new day full of opportunities, and to make the right choice or to put in the extra effort no matter how small the task is.
Nothing is too insignificant, no act is too simple to omit kindness. If we all radiate with kind hearts and open minds, we can cure the heartache. As said by Mark Twain, “Kindness is a language that the deaf can hear and the blind can see." It is something that is utterly invincible if we simply embrace its strength. If you do anything today, do it with kindness.
