How God Will Be My Security Blanket In 2018

Letting go and letting God.

When you were little, you were probably given a blanket or stuffed animal that you took with you everywhere. Your blanket went with you to the grocery store, on vacation, and to bed with you each and every night. If you didn't have your blue or pink piece of soft fabric, you would feel out of your comfort zone and your life wouldn't function until you had your "blankie" back.

Fast forward 15 or 20 years, you would think you left your "blankie" in a box somewhere in the attic. However, I'm willing to bet you still have your security blanket, but I'm not talking about that pink or blue piece of fabric sitting in the attic. I'm talking about your long hair, skinny body, Louis Vuitton Neverfull, or Mercedes-Benz car.

How many of you look towards material things as a way of having comfort or security in your life? I know that for me, I tend to look towards worldly things that I believe will give me comfort in today's society. For so many years, I looked towards having the perfect body as my security blanket.

Now that I am older and wiser, I don't look towards that anymore as my main source of comfort. I am human, so I certainly still have my moments of wanting my "blankie" back. But now, instead of looking for something I can hold on my arm or wear, I look for Jesus to be my security blanket. So with this in mind, can you do the same?

Jesus is perfect and has conquered the world. He has suffered just like you and I have, but he conquered his suffering and let love win. In my experience, Jesus is the only one who truly helped me let go of my security blankets, and allowed me to turn to Him as my only source of comfort.

You are so much more than how much you weigh, how long your hair is, or what type of car you drive. You are so much more because you are a child of God, the only man in the entire world who is absolutely perfect!

So now I ask you, what is your security blanket? Is it healthy? Ask yourself if you are willing to give it up, and in turn, ask Jesus to take over as your only security blanket?

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
