It’s the final countdown.
Here we are a few weeks into Spring Semester 2016 and I sit here on a Tuesday night at 6:43 p.m. with the lights off in my cozy bedroom watching an episode of "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" that I have seen twice before, might I add. I’ve already completed tomorrow’s homework and sure there are assignments I could get ahead on, but, eh, another time. These infrequent times of boredom that I’ve experienced in the past weeks have gotten me thinking about the future. After graduation, when will I ever experience downtime like this ever again? All signs point to never.
What I’ve found is that second-semester senior year is a time for realizing things, as Kylie Jenner would say.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I am beyond pumped to enter the real world. I mean, being a student is great and all, but writing 20 pages papers and reading mind-numbing textbooks are activities I will not miss. Plus, I am ecstatic for a chance to start fresh.
Having said this, I am going to share my vibes for second-semester senior year. Starting with my number one rule: go with the flow. If your night uptown doesn’t go as planned or the paper you have due is taking more time than expected, go with the flow. There really is no use stressing over things that are out of your control. Use it as a learning experience and move on. The major key to going with the flow is not having high expectations. I promise you, if you spend less time worrying about everything falling perfectly into place, you’ll spend more time letting loose and creating unforgettable memories. You’ll need to stick these memes in your back pocket to bring out when you’re five hours deep staring at an Excel spreadsheet in your tiny cubicle next year. Long story short, going with the flow equates to good vibes.
Another way to ensure great senior year vibes is to be conscious of your attitude. The inner sass-master inside me is released just as much as the next person, but it's something we all need to work on, ya know? In order to finish off the school year with ultra good vibes, it’s important to be conscious of your ‘tude. Maybe you’re a little stressed with job applications or maybe some drama with your best friend has got you rolling your eyes and shooting out some unnecessarily sarcastic comments. Cut it out. We’re all in this crazy, little town called Oxford together. Let’s get along. Life is too short to hold grudges anyway. Give everyone love, you guys. Life is hard enough, am I right?
My last little tid bit for optimum senior year vibes is to say "yes" more often. I know this sounds cliché and all, but the memories you’re going to tell your children are not going to start with, “so it was a Friday night and Netflix asked me yet another time, 'are you still watching?'” The stories you’re going to tell your kids to prove that you were cool in college are going to include the times you did crazy stuff with your best friends until the wee hours of the morning. So, my fellow seniors, let’s make an effort to say, “yes” more often than “eh, another time.” Second semester is waiting for you with open arms, and it’s about time you embraced them.
Take my advice or don’t. You do you this semester, but just be sure to make it count. I am going to leave you with my favorite quote from my favorite television show:
“I wish there was a way to know you’re in the good old days before you’ve actually left them.” - Andy Bernard, "The Office"
