ThetaFest, Kappa Alpha Theta’s fall philanthropy event will be happening November 3, 2017, at the Theta house. By purchasing a ticket, you are guaranteed a $5 fajita dinner held at the Theta house that includes entertainment, music, and a silent auction.
While this ThetaFest is one of the best parts of being in Theta, this event means more to all of us than just the fajitas and friends. With the money we raise, we have the ability to make an incredible impact on our local philanthropy Scotty’s house and the lives of people of the Bryan and College Station area.
Scotty’s House is the Child Advocacy Center of the Brazos Valley. Their mission is to provide safety, healing, and justice for children victimized by abuse through professional assessment, counseling, and education in a compassionate and collaborative approach.
Scotty's House children are referred to the program by law enforcement officials and Child Protective Services investigators. Once they are there, the non-profit provides a supportive and nurturing environment in which a child victim can interact with the necessary agencies. This non-profit provides not only forensic services, but also advocacy, counseling, and education services to further prevent child abuse. Scotty’s House puts an incredible focus on the children, making everything from the forensic interview to counseling services child-friendly.
Each year the chapter visits the non-profit to better understand how the organization works. Through our visit, we walk through the different rooms, each being decorated and filled with toys to make the children more comfortable. Those who work there demonstrate a kindness and determination that is indescribably inspirational. Seeing these members of the community and their drive to change lives impacts every single member of Kappa Alpha Theta.
Kappa Alpha Theta is dedicated to our philanthropy because we know that we have the ability to help work towards the mission of Scotty’s House. Our event has its ability to create memorable experiences out of our chapter’s love and devotion to our philanthropy and our community.
The night of ThetaFest, the Theta house is flooded with families, students, and friends, all uniting to help benefit Scotty’s House. The enthusiasm that surfaces from both the girls involved and those participating in ThetaFest are magnetic. As the Thetas work, eat, and celebrate with one another, you can also see the people of Texas A&M did the same. People of every stage of life can walk through our chapter’s doors to enjoy themselves, knowing that through their evening, they were making a difference in someone else’s life.
ThetaFest has the ability to change lives and bring people closer together as a meal is shared. We hope to see you at our event to help us further change the lives of children across our area!
