5 Steps That Have Reduced My Stress Level

Between finals week, work, and balancing a social life, I barely have time to breathe.

5 Steps That Have Reduced My Stress Level

As the end of the semester is approaching, the stress of having to study for five to six finals and making sure all of your final assignments are done correctly and turned in on time is greatly increasing. If you are anything like me, then you are someone that gets very anxious and stresses over the smallest things, making this the worst time of the year for you. Stress is something that we all go through at one point in our lives, but each person handles stress differently. For teens and young adults, most of their stress is school-related. Here are five steps that have helped with stress this semester.

Canvas can be your best friend.

While it may be hard to believe that canvas can actually be a friend, let alone your best friend, it offers students with many tools that help them keep track of their assignments and when they are due. Two of the things that help me out the most is the "to-do list" and the calendar. While the calendar may overwhelm you, it shows you all your assignments for the semester, the to-do list only shows you the assignments you have due that week.

Stop procrastinating.

Although I'm an expert at procrastination, I can confidently say that for some assignments it is better if you start with enough time. By starting on assignments earlier you will have not only more time to work on your assignment but you have time to edit or change any errors.

Take it day by day.

At the start of this semester, I decided that I would find ways to not stress myself out. The one way that has helped out tremendously is by taking it day by day and not overwhelming myself. Like I had previously said canvas can be your best friend. I used to log into my canvas account and look up all the assignments I had to do, and immediately I would regret my decision in doing so. This semester I would log in, look at what I had due the next day, and I would focus on those assignments. In doing so my stress has reduce and I have been able to focus more on each assignment.

Don't overwork yourself.

Around midterm and finals week is when college students feel like the world is coming to an end, and they have absolutely no time to finish everything they need to do, so they decide to hustle and try to finish everything as fast as possible with no break. While this may work for some people, for others it may result in the complete opposite. Taking an hour or two to relax from studying can actually help you retain information more when you go back to studying. By overworking yourself you'll get to a point where everything that you are reading, you won't be able to grasp.

Ask for help.

It is okay to go and ask for help whether it be from your professor, a tutor or one of your classmates. If you don't fully understand a subject or project it is best to ask someone for help so they can clear it out for you. This way you won't be as stressed, and you'll do better on your assignment or test. We all have questions about certain things, especially if it is something that we are first learning about. It is better to ask questions and do things right then to try to figure it out by yourself and do it wrong.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
