It's easy to be optimistic at the start of a new semester. A few weeks/months in, however... well that's a different story. Students often feel tired and run down, but it doesn't have to be that way! I've compiled a list of ways you can have a great semester with minimum burn out!

1. Don't be afraid to ask for help

If you are feeling overwhelmed or dealing with personal issues, talk to someone. There is no shame in talking to an RA or a counselor about problems you may be facing.

2. Eat more green stuff

Look, I hate veggies just as much as the next person, but you can't deny that you feel better when you eat them.

3. Practice time management

4. Make your bed every day

I thought this was silly at first, but I saw a video about how making your bed each day helps you have a more productive day, and it actually makes a lot of sense.

5. Set aside time to have fun

6. Get plenty of sleep

You're probably laughing at this one. I understand how difficult it can be to get enough sleep in college, but making it a priority will give you so much more energy. It won't always happen, but when faced with the choice of going to bed at a decent hour and staying up to watch Netflix... well, you know.

7. Get involved in your school and community

8. Drink plenty of water

Water is a word that all too often is not in a college student's vocabulary, but it's basically magic. So many of your life problems can be solved just by staying hydrated. You can go ahead and put the latte down now.

9. Develop (and upkeep) a good skincare routine

There's just something about healthy skin that makes you feel like you have your life together.

10. Spend time away from your electronic devices

11. Feed your soul

This means something different for everyone, but whether it means listening to your favorite band, reading a good book or any other number of things, do it.

12. Call your mom when you can't figure life out.

She always knows what to say.

13. Prayer & meditation

Don't forget to set aside time to be by yourself. Praying and meditating are great ways to clear your mind and start your day off right.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
