Before I came to college I wanted to seem cool and act like I was so above high school and really any school in general. But all of that was a lie so here is how school brought and continues to bring me the best release from the chaos of my life, my favorite hobbies, and my future career.
No matter what type of stresses I was facing, whether it was worrying about a dumb boy, or stressing over how to handle things with friends, I always knew where I could distract myself. It was always calming to have an assignment or task that was organized so perfectly that it made my whole life feel as though it was in order too.
One of my favorite subjects all throughout school has been math. I love the patterns and uniformity of it. It is so simple in principle but it also challenges you because there is so much variety.
Math was always been my favorite distraction and still is even in college.
Not only did school offer a great distraction, but it also gave me some of my favorite hobbies. The numerous clubs I was in with friends were always fun and the car rides to and from always added an extra plus.
But even more than that, in middle and high school I had the opportunity to play basketball and to this day that offered some of the most rewarding experiences I have had.
I also was in classes we had through a program that was directed at learning Biomedical sciences and forensics. All of these things have continued to offer many rewards even though I am not involved in any of them now.
I have never struggled in school, but I have never been the stand out genius either.
But, ever since I was in preschool, school has been my happy place. I love and have always loved everything about it. In fact, at my preschool graduation when we were all asked what we wanted to be when we grew up most girls said “a princess” or “singer”, I just said, “I want to be a teacher”.
I loved school so much that I wanted to spend the rest of my life in one. And actually still today as a Junior in college, I am studying Elementary Education.
And even now I will tell you with 100% certainty that when I grow up, I want to be a teacher.
