It seems almost impossible to believe that I graduated from high school almost two years ago. A lot of things have changed since then and many lessons have been learned as well. High school can be thought of as a small neighborhood where for the most part, everyone knows each other or has at least heard of each other. In high school there were limits to everything. Don't do this, don't do that. Don't wear that, wear this instead. No don't read it like that, read it like this. According to the school system we were "being prepared for college". I can assure you that almost absolutely nothing that I learned from high school helped me in college.
College has been an entirely different ball park. As I mentioned earlier, high school is like a neighborhood, as opposed to college, college can be compared to an entire city..and I have loved every second of it. In college there are no limits. None. (except for that works cited page....I've heard you can get kicked out of a class for not citing your sources).
Starting college has been one of the most exciting things I have done and I am sure that it will be something that will stay with me as I mature through the rest of the stages of life. College has been a new step and a brand new chance to reinvent myself! Everywhere I go, I always see new faces and I have come to a realization that starting my sophomore year has been one of the best years so far.
I can genuinely say that college as helped me build up a confidence that I didn't even know that I had. I find that I am able to put myself out there without the fear of being judged by anyone else because I know that we are all going through the same things.
However with all of the fun and freedom of a college student...I also now have a load of new responsibilities.
I am a full time college student and I also work four days a week as a waitress. Unlike some students I don't have "mommy and daddy money" to pay for my classes, I pay for it myself and for that I am very grateful. By having to pay for my classes I have come to the great realization that money in fact doesn't come out of anyone's butt and it doesn't grow on trees. Having a job and having to pay for my tuition and personal expenses I have learned to value money and I know what it is like to work hard for something that I want to succeed in.
With that being said, my journey in college is not over, in fact, it just started. I cannot wait to see what else college has in store for me!
