Saying Goodbye To My Freshman Floor

Our freshman year of college is slowly but surely coming to a close. With all the new friends that were made and memories that we share, it’s really going to be hard saying goodbye. Even though it’s only going to be a few short months, when we come back for the new year there are going to be so many new memories to be made; but none will compare to the ones we made with the new people we met.

Our freshman year floor will forever be a floor that means something to us. They will always be the very first friends that we actually made here at Temple. Your floor has been there for you from the start to the end. We all know the little things about each other; we made some of the best friends this year on our floor.

It won’t be the same waking up and not being able to walk down to your best friend’s room and wake them up for breakfast or just lay there and cuddle for a while. Not having the same routine every day will take some getting used to. Not being able to text in the floor's groupchat to see who wants to get dinner will be hard.

But as we start to take down our dorm decorations we realize that we don’t have much time left with each other on the floor. As we take down each photo that we took with each other we will realize all the memories that we have made with each other, and it will become harder and harder to say goodbye.

Even though we can get together over the summer, nothing will compare to the memories that were made on our floor. Next year we will have amazing new memories that will be made, but we can’t compare it to the amazing time we had together on this floor. Although some of us might be living together or far apart, we know that we will always have that special bond with each other.

From floor meetings to floor dinners, we will quickly realize how badly we are going to miss it all. Saying goodbye on the last day will be the hardest thing that we have had to do since saying goodbye to our hometown friends. The friends that I made on my floor here at my first year of college will forever have an impact on me.

When we all start taking down our decorations and pictures in our room, we will realize how amazing our floor was, and how we wouldn’t have been able to get through the year without each other.

So I just want to take the time to thank my floor for an amazing year with amazing memories; for introducing me to new people and breaking me out of my shell; for accepting me for who I am. I will never have another floor like the one that I have now. So thank you to all my friends that I made on my floor at my first year of college.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
