Saves The Day's Album "9" Gives Off Hardcore Rock Vibes

Saves The Day is a New Jersey rock band that's been making noise since 1994. The band is currently made up of Chris Conley (lead vocals and guitars), Arun Bali (guitars), Rodrigo Palma (bass) and Dennis Wilson (drums). The band started when singer Conely was 13 years old and at the time was named Indifference. The band was later renamed Seffler before finally being landing on Saves The Day. Their current name is a moniker that came from a lyric in the song 'Hero' by the band Farside which led to their first demo. Today, the band is still continuing to make their own pop-punk/emo inspired sounds with singer Chris Conley, the only original member of the band.

On October 26, Saves The Day released their 13th album titled 9. This album has plenty of hard rock sounds and stays true to the album title with only nine tracks. The overall sound of the record gives off a hardcore rock vibe.

Most of the lyrics explore the life and times of the band. It's easy to tell that they're telling a story about a different point in time over the course of their career. The perfect example is the song '1997.' This song is clearly about where the band was in 1997.

"Twenty years ago a couple kids playing guitars singing in a band. Still here underground hashing it out still playing shows hanging with our friends."

They weren't signed to a label yet, they were playing local shows in underground bars whenever they could and they were selling demo records to anyone who attended shows at a low price because they were trying to figure out how they could make a living out of doing something that they loved. It then goes on to talk about how they started to take off and became signed and garnered popularity. What I didn't realize until I read the lyrics is this song is a flashback. Over the last twenty years, everything moved so fast that it all became a blur.

My favorite song on 9 is 'Its Such A Beautiful World.' Some of the lyrics in the song are:

"It's such a beautiful world. Sometimes it's all such a blur. We wanna see you at our next show...We keep f**king up the chords… Gonna build our own stage. Like back in the day. Let them say what they say. We're gonna play what we play."

This comes across as saying we don't care what people say anymore. Whatever someone's problem with us it doesn't matter to us. People are going to say things and well just ignore them and keep doing what we're doing.

What I love about this band is that they still sound like a pop-punk band from the '90s, however, they are able to twist their music so it sounds current but still transports you back in time. When I listened to this album. I felt like I was actually at an underground rock show instead of in my bedroom.

If you are a fan of bands such as Motion City Soundtrack, Bayside, The Starting Line or I am The Avalanche. I highly recommend this album

In addition to 9, Saves The Day also has albums: Can't Slow Down, Through Being Cool, Stay What You Are, In Reverie, Ups and Downs, Bug Sessions Vol. 1,2,3, Sound The Alarm, Daybreak and Saves The Day.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
