Save The Bees, Please

They’re so important!

Save The Bees, Please

Bees are dying out and not many people are talking about. Guys and gals. We need to talk about it. Bees dying out is more important than this election. Bees dying out is more important than Brangelina. Bees dying out is more important than finding out who robbed Kim Kardashian. Is there any more emphasis I can put onto this? Bees are dying out and we need to care.

“Why though?” Asks the person casually eating guacamole while reading this article.

“They’re mean and try to sting us,” says the person eating a bowl of strawberries while reading this article.

“I’m just not a fan of bugs,” says the person sipping their coffee while reading this article.

Without bees, all of those things…they’re gone.

We rely on bees to pollinate a lot of our food. Bees are the reason why we can still have avocados, strawberries, and coffee beans. They do their job of pollinating and go on their merry way. Without pollination, we can’t have a lot of food we love to have. Without bees, we can’t have pollination. You see the problem?

There are species of bees dying out and that will affect our food supply if they officially go extinct. Different species of bees pollinate different foods. For example, if honey bees and solitary bees both go extinct we will lose pollination for lemons, limes, broccoli, cauliflower, chestnuts, etc. If they go extinct, we won’t have fresh lemonade anymore. If they go extinct, little kids will never have the opportunity to eat little green and white trees. If they go extinct, how are we supposed to have chestnuts roasted over an open fire at Christmastime? We need these bees and we need the plants and food that they pollinate.

Some reasons for why the bees are dying out? Two main contenders are climate change and pesticides. The pesticides that are sprayed on foods negatively impact bees and while the plants still grow, the bees can be poisoned and die from the pesticides. Climate change and wild changes in weather also impact the bee populations. If temperatures are all warm and comfy through October, the bees may think that they can stay out and pollinate more, but when it drops to 50 degrees the next day, the bees don’t have much of a chance to make it.

Oh, and you, with the strawberries, you think bees are mean and try to sting you? Try again. You are most likely thinking of wasps and hornets, the less friendly relatives of the bee. They sting, they’re mean. We know. That’s kind of what they do. It’s not the bees’ fault though! Think of it like this. Say you’re really nice but your second cousin thrice removed on your dad’s side through a second marriage is a total jerk. Say someone then hates on you because of this very distant relative. Not fair, right? That’s what it’s like for the bees who are killed just because people aren’t big fans of yellow and black flying bugs. Bees typically just want to buzz around and do their job, so let them!

We need to help save the bees! They’re important! While it’s harder to help out with the bigger picture right away, you can always start by not immediately killing the bug flying around you without first seeing what it really is. Save the bees!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
