Experiencing God at Elim Fellowship

Saturate Conference 2017
Samuel Files

On November 9th through 11th, I attended the Saturate Youth Conference at Elim Bible Institute & College. In short, I had an amazing time. I can’t necessarily say I am a Christian, but I am a believer and follower of Christ. And it was truly an awesome experience to be with about 1,000 other youth in God’s presence.

It started on Thursday night, around 7:30 pm and went till about 9:30. There was a powerful worship session before someone came and spoke about our identity in Christ. The message was great, and my take-home was that Christ loves us and is always well-pleased with us. It was a testament to how much God cares about us and always wants the best for us.

Friday was a whole day at Elim. It started at 7:30 am and went till about 10 pm. The first session was very similar to the first session the day before. Worship and then the same speaker spoke more about our identity in Christ. After that, there was something called a panel discussion. There were actually three of those. Three separate speakers spoke in three separate matters: sexuality, identity, and racism, all relevant to current events. The panel discussions were good, and after that was something called “Epic Recharge” which took place on the Elim campus.

Elim has a pretty cool campus. Epic Recharge took place on the campus in the gym and student center. It was a pretty chill time, hanging out with other youth and getting to know the people in my group a little better. After Epic Recharge was dinner, which for my group meant Chipotle and Starbucks. I had an amazing dinner, and an amazing time in general. After dinner was another session where we had a very powerful worship session, in my opinion, the most amazing of the 3 days. Afterwards, Adam McCain spoke and gave a great message about identity, and who we are called to be in Christ.

On the final day, Saturday, we were only there for half day. There was worship again, which was also great. Definitely a second place winner for worship at the conference. Afterwards, Adam McCain spoke again for the last message, reiterating our identity in Christ. Then the conference was over and everyone went home.

I still wear the Saturate wristband. I never want to forget this experience. It was amazing.

Once again, I have to say how amazing it was to interact with and be around youth who love God. The worship was amazing, the messages were great, and all the downtime at Elim was a ton of fun.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
