Rush (For Sisters), As Told By The Office

Ah, rush.

The most exciting time of the semester by far (besides football season), especially when it is your first as a sister rather than a potential new member... or so they say.

You can't help but be excited to watch your sorority grow and get to know all of the intelligent and wonderful young women who are seeking to become part of your campus family. It is an even greater feeling knowing that you are in charge of making the entire rush experience full of magic for them. However, these emotions do not diminish any of the stress that comes along with this.

As a potential new member, there is so much that you do not realize goes into the execution of a successful week of rush, not to mention, the various events within it such as Big-Little and Bid Day.

This week I could not help but feel like my inner thoughts throughout rush could be described perfectly through some of my favorite moments from The Office.

When girls approach you with questions and have never heard of your sorority before:

I'm sure this isn't so common in Panhellenic sororities, but when it comes to local and multicultural, there is a lot many girls don't know! And this is exactly how it feels when we have to break down what our organization is all about.

Prepping to meet the PNMs like:

I'm sure the last thing anyone wants to do after having class all day is to have to socialize with a ton of people they don't know. Nevertheless, it has to be done! Fake that smile until you begin to feel a genuine one take its place and prepare to be friendly!

Bombaring PNMs with all the info they need:

No other words necessary, you already know they won't remember a single detail and you'll answer the same questions the rest of the semester. But hey, what are sisters for?

When you're dismissed at the conclusion of rush events for the night:

Time to catch some Z's!

When you watch a sister eat the last cookie at Bid Day:

I was counting on that small ounce of sugar to keep my energy levels high enough to get through the night!

Crafting for Big-Little Reveal:

I have been preparing for this day for exactly 4 months prior. However, more canvases, candies, and little goodies are never a bad thing... right?

When you're still voting on girls after hour number two:

I am begging you, please, keep your comments concise. I am ready to go home and I don't think I am a functioning human being anymore.

When it is finally over:

Now that all of the craziness has died down, it is time to sit back and relax with some Netflix binging and finger foods!

But even after it ends, we can never ever forget the worst part about rush:

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
