am a 19-year-old student athlete on my college's cross country and track and field teams. Here are 15 struggles that every runner will relate to. We all feel this pain!

1. Picking between two different colors for your trainers.

2. The difference between feeling motivated enough to run 6 miles all on your own just because you feel like it, and seeing a 6-mile run that you have to do because it's on your training plan.

3. Walking up or down a flight of stairs after a hill workout.

4. Finding pants that fit your thighs, waist, and and butt simultaneously. This will never happen as a runner, invest in a bet, and move on.

5. One headphone constantly falling out of only one ear, or worse, getting tangled around your necklace.

6. Non-runners calling it "jogging."

7. That one black toenail that you get every. single. year.

8. Long bus rides to meets.

9. Sketchy hotels when staying over for an away meet.

10. Realizing halfway through your 60-minute run that you need to go to the bathroom.

11. Not being allowed to wear just spandex and a sports bra at all times.

12. Having five minutes left of your run, then suddenly, it starts to torrential downpour.

13. Running 2-seconds off your mile PR.

14. That one teammate who thinks every workout, every run, and every race is the last competitive event they will ever perform in.

15. Getting off the couch.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
