Choosing a college to attend is hard and even after all that, you still have to find a roommate/roommates. Sometimes you already know someone and decide to room with them, but many just do the random assignment. Some get lucky with who they're paired with, while others aren't as lucky. This past year I was paired with three girls, all from Alabama. They were kind, but I couldn't help but feel like the odd one out. I was coming all the way from Boston to live with three girls who already knew one another. We were never besties, but it all worked out in the end.
There were many times when I did not feel welcomed in the place I lived in. So here is everything you experience when you 3rd-wheel your roomies.
1. You talk about things that are different in your hometowns.
2. You never know if you should say hi on campus or not.
Since you aren't besties, you never know when to say hi or not
3. You basically only have casual conversation all year.
You never really got close, so the weather is always a good topic
4. You will hear them up late while you're in your room.
It's just too awkward to join
5. You tell people coming to college to not do random room assignments.
6. You sometimes have strange moments where you're like BFF's but you aren't.
7. You understand their quirks and how they like to live.
8. You agree to live peacefully and civilly (hopefully).
9. There is awkward silence A LOT.
11. You learn to live together peacefully and civilly (hopefully).
12. You ask them to go out with you to try and break the ice.
13. You gossip about people on your floor or your RA.
"Did you hear that Chad from Sigma Apple Pie punched a hole in his door again?"
