A Letter To My Freshman Year Roommate

Roomie,

It seems like this year has flown by. I can't believe our time living together is coming to a close. So, take this letter as a small token of my appreciation for you.

First, thank you for dealing with me for the entire year. Thank you for helping me adjust to college life and for going through recruitment with me. I don't know how I could've gone through some stressful times without you. August through April you have had to deal with my sleeping habits, my need to play music 24/7, and my terrible singing. But, you always pretended it was the best thing you had ever heard. You even referred to me as Christina Aguilera.

Thank you for watching the same shows as me. Whether it was Food Network, Shark Tank, or America's Next Top Model, you were binge-watching it with me. (P.S. Go Nyle!) Perhaps we will never be the next greatest entrepreneurs, models, or even chefs, but we have been great roommates. Not to mention the countless amount of times you have been up for getting food with me. From the Chinese take-out to the cafeteria visits, you were always down to get food with me.

So, here's an ode to all of the fun times we've had. You've been my number one supporter on my bad days and have high-fived me on my good days. No matter what drama I was going through, you always supported me. Even hating the people who I hated and vice versa.

For letting me throw some of my laundry in with yours, helping me with schoolwork (the countless times I read you my papers, speeches, and emails), and for sending me a Christmas present even though we were 12 hours away from each other.

I know leaving you in a month is going to be hard, but thank you for helping me grow. Thank you for being there when I felt like no one was and thank you for singing with me when it was just one of those days. Leaving you for winter break was hard enough, but I hope you have the best summer and that your roommates next year are as great of a roommate to you as you were to me.

No one could ever replace you and I'm pretty sure I'll always refer to you as roomz. Thank you for not being the horror story of a first-year roommate that I have heard about.

Love always,

Your Roomie/Roomz

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
