“Don’t live with your best friend, you’ll end up hating each other." I have heard this statement close to 100 times. I live with both of my best friends, and guess what? We don't hate each other. In fact, we are closer than ever. Just to name a few of the reasons why living with my high school best friends rock:
- You don’t have to go through that awkward phase: Your best friends already know your quirks and flaws, and guess what? They love you for them. You don’t have to go through that awkward period of still getting to know your roommates, tip toeing over how you can and can't act.
- Carpooling home: That extra 20 bucks gets me about three Chipotle bowls...
- Gossiping is SO much easier: We all ran in the same social circle back in high school, so we have all the same memories and connections. We don't have to explain who we are gossiping about, we already know them. Carolyn from Chemistry? Yeah I remember her.
- Despite the rumors, you DO meet new people: Just because we ran in the same social circle in high school, that does not mean we won't meet new friends at college. New friends meet old friends, and we all become best friends.
- Family tailgates are LIT: Your families have known each other for years, which means they're just as comfortable as you are when it comes to getting their grove on.
- Yes you'll have fights, but you WILL get over them: you're best friends. You have to get over it. You have too much invested in the relationship to back out now.
- Clothes: Three best friends= three wardrobes.
- Movie nights: After a long day of work and class, unwinding with a glass (or two) of wine, a good Rom Com and your best friends is the best therapy.
- Every night is like a sleepover: They're the first people I get to see in the morning and the last at night. We can sit up talking about anything, whether it's gossip or just our day's activities.
- You always have a shoulder to cry on: Emotions tend to run high in our household, but it helps knowing I can walk one room over and cry into the arms of my best friend.
- You get to pee with the door open. You're THAT comfortable with each other.
- You see each other grow: This is my favorite reason. I have known my two roommates since sixth grade. We have been through breakups, makeups, cleanups, blowups, and the occasional throw ups. We have seen each other at our highest points and at our lowest points (middle school). I have seen them grow into these strong, brave, confident, beautiful, and loving people. Knowing that I get to share my college experience with them makes me the luckiest person in the world. They're my favorite people, why wouldn't I want to live with them?
