The first semester of my sophomore year of college taught me a lot about myself. I learned that I had to step up my game if I wanted good grades and to be social. But I also learned something that could really help me moving forward, as well as anyone else who feels they're in over their head.
Your body knows when you're overwhelmed and overloading yourself. For me, that resulted in frequent illness and lethargy. I lost motivation to attend classes and constantly wanted to sleep. I tried for a while to push through the discomfort, but then I stopped.
I reached out to my professors and let them know what was going on. I utilized all the resources provided to me on campus. My family and friends' love and support reassured me that I was going to be okay.
And so will you.
It may seem too hard to take, but you can do it. You have a support system that loves you endlessly. They're here to help you, so it's okay to ask for it! Asking for help doesn't make you weak, in fact, it makes you stronger.
You should also make sure you're sleeping at night. Six to eight hours is all it takes to keep your brain sharp and rested. Try and get your homework done early so you aren't staying up late trying to finish it. Aside from lack of sleep, you will be more stressed.
In college, you already have enough stress to deal with. Take time to plan your day, clean your room (I'm guilty of having a dirty room), and relax! Do not spend too much time at once on one thing; take breaks as needed.
College isn't easy, but it's do-able. If you are willing to put in the work and sweat a little (lot), you're golden. Just remember to please love yourself and surround yourself with people who love you. Last semester may not have been your best, but you can use that as motivation to do better the next time around.
Get help early and manage your time wisely. Save time to have fun while you're at it; college is meant to be enjoyable, but you still have to work for it.
Spring semester is all about you. Make it your best one yet!
