Road tripping with friends is an experience unlike any other. It's definitely something that everyone needs to experience before they leave college. When else in your life will you be able to explore a new place with friends, without having the restrictions and rules to follow that you normally would have if your family was around.
Imagine being in a car full of your friends. The four or five of you packed into a car, playlist ready and headed for the highway. Singing, joking and imagining what you will happen upon during the upcoming days is a memory all in it's own. Where you road trip to -- Vegas, Florida or New York -- doesn't really matter. There are so many options to choose from: the beach, the mountains, or even another state altogether. It's more about the times shared than the destination.
Here are a couple of tips for first-time road trippers.
1) Create a budget
Make a list of groceries, or estimate how much you'll spend eating out, to start. Then estimate how much gas money you'll need as well as how much it costs to stay in hotels or AirBNBs. Take that total and divide it by the number of people involved and you have a rough budget per person.
2) Make a group chat for the people involved to make plans and exchange ideas
The name can be road trip 2k18 or "Adventure Time," name it whatever you want but get it started and get the conversation flowing. Having a group chat makes it easier to coordinate dates, times and all the details of a fun road trip.
3) Think about the time frame you'd like to road trip for
Do you want a weekend vacay or a week-long excursion? It's important to know the time frame for your trip so you know how to coordinate tip #1 (your budget). Planning this in advance will be especially helpful for those people who need to take time away from work or make arrangements for pets.
4) Make a playlist of songs that EVERYONE likes
We all know that not everyone enjoys the same music. Some people love country, some people hate it. Some people love rap music and some people hate it. Put someone in charge of making the playlist, then throw in songs suggestions into the group chat for ease of creation.
5) Have a great time
Don't let petty arguments or jokes upset anyone. Keep the conversation light and avoid controversial topics unless everyone can be respectful of disagreeing positions. Avoid stress and takes lots of pictures to capture the memories.
When you're young, there's something special about being around only people your age. You're experiencing new things together and creating memories that will last a lifetime. Road tripping can be spontaneous, or all planned out, but either way, it's just as exciting.
