Rites of Passage: College Edition

Did you have a sweet sixteen? How about a Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah? Did you graduate from high school? College? Did you get married? If you answered yes to any of these questions than CONGRATULATIONS! You have gone through a "Rite of Passage", a ceremony or event marking an important stage in someone's life.

Sweet sixteens and weddings, among other things, are very common rites of passage. However, throughout different stages in your life you will experience other small rites of passages. College is one of the best times of your life and even in these four, or however many years, you will go through things that seem like rites of passages, like...

1. Going out for the first time.

And downing shots like Haley Dunphy on her 21st birthday

2. The end of your first semester, and then your first year.

3. Joining a sorority, or a fraternity.

4. Getting homesick for the first time.

5. Somehow surviving those 8 AMs.

And realizing you'll do whatever it takes to make it through. Then further figuring out that 8 AMs never get easier, no matter how many years you've been doing them.

6. Declaring your major, officially!

7. Your first Uber ride.

8. Going through the housing lottery for the first time.

The whole process is so stressful that you might as well give up and live in a box.

9. Trying to get an internship for a job that requires experience... That you don't have.

10. Coming into your own.

I'm sure we've all experienced a couple of these milestones. However, in all seriousness, college is a time to find yourself and figure out what your true passions are. The world is your oyster. Go out and take the world by storm.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
