The Rise And Fall Of Ken Bone

What a crazy week for an average American undecided voter.

The Rise And Fall Of Ken Bone

During this election year's Presidential debates, one person worked his way into hearts across America-- unfortunately, something that both candidates failed to do. Instead, Ken Bone, one of the citizens chosen to pose a question at October 9th's Presidential Debate, was the one to steal the show. While the media has revealed so much about this teddy-bear-esque man and his life during the past week, like many other celebrities, Ken Bone's untarnished character was short-lived. Since many didn't understand the excitement surrounding this seemingly average stranger in the first place, here are some reasons that Ken Bone instantly became a household name:

1. He's unsure of his position in this election.

At this point in the election year, most people should know who they are voting for come November. Or at least, that's how elections have worked in the past. This year, however, has been anything but typical. With an influential proportion of America still on the fence, everyone is tuning in, listening to our candidates' responses during these debates, trying to make a decision on what to do.

2. He's just a small town boy.

Born and raised in the metro-east St. Louis area (aka Southern Illinois-- no, not Chicago), Bone is an average-Joe selected to ask a question at a nationally televised debate. No big deal.

3. He reminds us of our childhood.

Seriously, the resemblance to this bumbling, western-toy enthusiast from Toy Story 2 is uncanny.

4. He tries to help his grandma with technology (and is usually unsuccessful).

She forgot her password. We feel your pain, Ken.

5. He understands the weight gain struggle.

"I had a rally nice olive suit that I love a great deal and that my mother would have been very proud to see me wearing on television," Bone revealed in an interview with CNN. "But apparently I've gained about 30 pounds, and when I went to get in my car the morning of the debate, I split the seat of my pants all the way open."

I think we've all had one of these moments.

6. Everyone loves a good sweater.

Plan B for the suit looked great, Ken. Comfort and style.

7. He wanted to take in the moment.

And thanks to a no-smartphone policy in the debate, he shamelessly did so with a disposable camera.

8. He reminds us of ourselves.

Because aren't we all just average U.S. citizens who struggle with weight gain, wardrobe malfunctions, technologically-challenged grandparents, and decisions for this crazy election?

But of course, Bone's rise to fame was not without consequence. Ken Bone once again proved that he was an average American after social media revealed that he does, in fact, have his faults. What makes him different is the fact that his faults became very public, very quickly.

While using his original Reddit username to do a chat with fans, his previous inappropriate and crass use of Reddit platforms was exposed. His vulgar comments regarding Jennifer Lawrence's hacked nude photos as well as his participation on pages marked NSFW shocked the crowd who had just adopted him as a household name. To add to this new image of himself, he also made a controversial comment regarding Trayvon Martin's case and even admitted to committing felony insurance fraud while working as a pizza delivery man. Within less than one week, the seemingly innocent, bumbling man that America fell in love with became the epitome of the age-old adage "Never judge a book by its cover."

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
