Every four years the world gathers 'round their televisions to spectate the most talented athletes on the planet compete for medals in a multitude of sports. This time is extra special because it's not only the mega sports fans who get excited - we all do. From young aspiring gymnasts to people like me who rarely leave the couch, we all get something out of the Olympics. If you're like me, this is how you're reacting to Rio.

1. Freaking out every time USA medals.

Why am I so excited?! I have done nothing to help with this accomplishment. It is not my accomplishment. But I feel like I won that medal too.

2. Googling the medal count at least once a day to stay updated.

Are we still ahead of China...? Yes!

3. Getting inspired by these amazing athletes to start working out.

My body could look like that. It can't be too hard. Maybe I'll be in the Olympics some day. Time to dust off that gym membership and sports bra.

4. Realizing that was a bad idea.

Exercise is hard. I will never be the next Michael Phelps.

5. Also realizing these young athletes have accomplished so much while you are sitting on your couch.

We are the same age. While she is breaking world records, I am breaking my personal record for how many days in a row I've worn these sweatpants.

6. Feeling bad about yourself.

I will never amount to anything. My life is going nowhere. What am I doing with myself?

7. Remembering the things you excel in.

Those medals I earn on my video games are just as important as an Olympic medal. I'm great at my job. I can do my own laundry like a pro. I is kind. I is smart. I is important.

8. Regaining self esteem.

It's summer anyways - time to relax. It's okay to veg on television every once in a while. We're all good at different things. I'm still awesome.

9. Refocusing on the events.

How do they do this stuff? I have never watched judo until now, but I suddenly love it. I now know everything there is to know about water polo. I could be a commentator in 2020.

10. Feeling a sense of community with your fellow countrymen.

That coworker I never liked is actually pretty cool. She shares my creepy obsession with men's gymnastics.

11. Filling with pride for your country.

Red, white, and blue are my new favorite colors. Who would like to join me in singing our national anthem? America is truly the greatest.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
