Why We Have The Right To Wear Makeup

We have the right to wear as much makeup as our hearts desire.

Why do we have the right to wear makeup? Because it is asinine to live for other people's approval. Recently I heard a man say that women shouldn’t wear makeup because what’s the point, if that woman is already attractive. Imagine my face when I heard this misogynistic opinion. How do some men (and women, too) actually think they have the right to tell someone how to present themselves? It’s sickening to think that some people believe that women wear makeup to impress and please others. It's possible to do things purely for yourself.

Everyone has different reasons for wearing makeup. Some may choose to wear makeup in order to improve their appearance, whereas others may consider makeup nothing more than a hobby. I’m confident enough in my appearance that I will go in public with or without makeup. I love wearing makeup because its application is an art, and the end result is beautiful. Sometimes I put on makeup even when I’m not leaving the house, just because it makes me feel better about myself. If you feel kind of blah, or if your hair isn’t complying, wearing makeup can definitely improve your mood. A touch of eye liner and lipstick can make a huge difference.

From just wearing concealer and mascara to a full on contoured look, makeup is a great way to boost one’s confidence on a daily basis. I hate the negative connotation given to women who wear makeup every day. What’s different from wearing makeup daily and dressing nice or fixing your hair daily? If makeup is part of your daily routine, then that is completely OK. No one can tell you what you can and can’t do, especially when it comes to your own appearance. You’ve got to be kind of petty to actually care whether or not someone wears makeup often.

If someone ridicules you for wearing (or not wearing) makeup, tell them to frick off! People have the right to express themselves in their own way, and makeup is a common way to do so. I believe that makeup application is a virtue, and those who take pride in their makeup skills should be admired, not ridiculed. Whether you wear makeup to make you feel better about yourself, use it as an art form, or just to cover up blemishes, wearing it is your prerogative. So, whoever you are, do not let others ridicule you for doing something that you deem fun and acceptable.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
