10 Things To Do When You're Stressed
Jacqueline Dorsett

As college students, or anyone for that matter, we all get a little stressed out sometimes. Here are 10 things you can do to unwind and destress.

1. Take a good old nap

Nothing is better than sleeping. Chances are you are very overwhelmed and just need to take a little break and regroup. A nap is the perfect solution to this problem. Not only do you not have to think about what you're are stressed about, but you also get a time to take care of your body.

2. Get outside!!

Really any type of exercise will be good. Just get yourself outside for at least 15 minutes and enjoy it. You will release endorphins from working out and get to enjoy some fresh air. Bonus points if you have a dog to take with you.

3. Take a bath

Make yourself a bubble bath! We all loved them when we were kids and there is no reason not to have one now. Turn on your favorite music or set up your computer and watch a show and just sit back and relax.

4. Have a feast

Whatever it may be (and however expensive it may be) treat yourself to a nice meal. This will automatically put you in a better mood for the rest of the day.

5. Binge your favorite show

Who doesn't love watching Netflix?! This is an amazing stress reliever because you get to just chill out and watch one of your favorite shows without stressing about ANYTHING! It doesn't get better than that.

6. Make a snack

You can make a nice healthy snack like apples and peanut butter or make yourself a veggie tray! It will help refuel you once you go back to your task at head and it's a nice accomplishment making your own food instead of throwing something in the microwave.

7. Facetime a friend

We all love our friends, right? So why not give them a call! Your friends are some of the best people to talk to when you are stressed out. Even if you don't want to talk about that, there is always something to talk about when you facetime your friend.

8. Meditate

Meditation is such an amazing exercise for when you are stressed. It helps you relax and re-center yourself, so you are prepared to go back and tackle whatever is causing you stress with a new mindset. If you are new to meditation, I recommend downloading the app "Calm" and using one of their guided meditations.

9. Go for a drive and listen to your favorite music

This might just be a small-town thing but trust me it helps. Go for a drive around our neighborhood. Maybe even call up a friend to come with you. The point is you are completely taking your mind off of whatever is stressing you out and focusing on something completely different. It's even better if you roll down the windows and blast the music.

10. Use essential oils

I am new to using essential oils; however, they are amazing! It is a natural way to help yourself relax and rejuvenate yourself. When you are stressed you should use a lavender oil. If you have a headache, I would recommend using a peppermint or rosemary oil to help relieve your headache.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
