Most people know Selena Gomez for her on-and-off-again relationship with Justin Bieber or her television show, "Wizards of Waverly Place," pushing her musical career to the back of our minds. However, in 2015 she flipped the script. Her album, "Revival," released in October, is unlike anything she has produced before. It's a completely new sound, and it works.
It's grown up without trying too hard--a mistake many child Disney stars make. If you haven't listened to it, I strongly suggest you go do it now. As a supplement to your listening, I have provided here a ranking (totally my opinion; feel free to disagree) of all 14 songs on the album.
1. "Me & My Girls"
You absolutely cannot go wrong with a girl power anthem.
2. "Hands to Myself"
It's catchy, it's grown up without being vulgar, and the video is fire. Watch it here.
3. "Sober"
Because we've all been stuck in a vicious cycle with that guy we can't let go of, even though he's totally bad for you.
4. "Same Old Love"
When you finally realize you can do better.
5. "Good For You"
Some say it's anti-feminist; I say who cares? There's nothing wrong with wanting to look good for your man if that's what makes you happy.
6. "Camouflage"
Because every album needs a good make-you-cry song.
7. "Rise"
The beginning music makes you feel like you're on an island somewhere, but the chorus hits and it feels like you have your own personal choir inspiring you to rise above whatever obstacles may be in your path.
8. "Body Heat"
It's sensual, and the music kinda makes you wanna salsa.
9. "Nobody"
We all have that one person we compare everybody else too.
10. "Revival"
It's the album's namesake and an accurate depiction of her reviving her music career.
11. "Perfect"
As women, we always know when there's another woman.
12. "Survivors"
I'm convinced if she did a medley of this song with Taylor Swift's "Out of the Woods," it would be gold.
13. "Me & the Rhythm"
It's catchy, but that's about all I have for this song.
14. "Kill 'Em with Kindness"
There's a reason this is the last song on my list; I'm just not a fan.
