Friday August 26, 2016 the was the second to last day of Kenny Chesney's 2016 "Spread the Love Tour" at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts. Chesney always ends his tour in the Boston area because he loves the fans that come out and see him perform. This was the first time I saw Chesney in concert in four years. The "Brothers of the Sun Tour" which was in 2012 is where Chesney himself named the Massachusetts people No Shoes Nation. Day one of his two nights in Foxboro was the concert I attended with my friend. He had three opening acts and they were in order: Old Dominion, Sam Hunt and Miranda Lambert.
Unfortunately, my friend and I missed Old Dominion except for one song which was "Break Up With Him." The song was great but the rest before I ended up in my seat, that I can not review.
After the band went off stage, the crew began to set up for Sam Hunt. Hunt open up with "Leave the Night On," one of his many singles from his debut album "Montevallo." He was amazing live. He sang some songs that he wrote for other artists. For example Hunt wrote "We are Tonight" which Billy Currington sings. He sang "Take Your Time" which is an amazing song, was great live too. He ended up singing "Make You Miss Me" as his encore song. I think that song was appropriate for a last song because he was leaving the stage for the night, and the tour was coming to an end.
The next artist to perform before Chesney himself was the one and only Miranda Lambert. I have always wanted to see her perform so badly because she is my favorite country singer, and her songs are more Country-Rock than that pop country that I can tolerate but do not love too much. She opened up with "Fastest Girl In Town" which is a favorite of mine. She sang her new song "Vice" which I love so much. Lambert ended up saving her most bad-ass song for last which was "Gun Powder and Lead." Lambert I believe said along the line of this "Since I'm the only girl on this tour, I'm going to leave you guys with a love song." "Gun Powder and Lead" is most definitely not a love song; it is about a girl showing that she is not afraid to show her abuser that she is never going to be thrown about like a rag doll ever again. Seeing Lambert perform was a check off the bucket list for me and she did not disappoint at all.
Around eight-fifty is when the man himself, Kenny Chesney came on stage. He opened his part of the show with "Beer in Mexico." Fun fact, he opened up with the same song four years ago in 2012. After the song ended, he said he and his crew could not wait to come to New England. He said this about twenty more times throughout the night and kept blowing kisses out to the crowd. He sang "She's From Boston" and "The Boys of Fall" both songs debuted at this time of the tour only. He brought out Miranda Lambert to sing "You and Tequila" with him. As the song ended, both of them ended up slow dancing with each other to be funny (that's what I saw). He brought out Old Dominion to sing "Save it for a Rainy Day" which is one of my favorite songs by him. However, I was disappointed with the fact that he did not bring Sam Hunt back out to sing with him. I mean they could have sang "Come Over" a song that Hunt wrote that Chesney sang for one of his albums.
Overall, the concert was amazing, and I can not wait to go back again next year; if he puts on another great tour.
