I Respect The Role Of President, Not The Man Who Plays That Role

Where is the respect, Mr. Trump?

Donald Trump: celebrity, businessman, and now president? Mr. Trump may have won the presidency, but he will never earn the respect of me and millions of Americans. Whenever someone comes up to me and says, “You at least need to at least respect our president," I turn around and say, “I’ll respect this president the way conservatives respected President Obama.”

President Obama, time after time, was disrespected in so many ways. He was the first president to ever have to show his birth certificate, and who started the birth certificate movement? None other than Mr. Trump himself. How about the time in 2009 when Obama was addressing congress and Republican Representative Joe Wilson from South Carolina yelled out "LIAR" right in the middle of Obama’s speech. Isn't interrupting a speech, regardless of who is speaking, pretty disrespectful?

Although Obama was disrespected over and over again he still managed to always rise above. Did you ever see Obama going on Twitter and make a fool of himself when he had a country to run? It seems as if Trump has put more time into tweeting and playing golf then actually trying to move forward with his agenda.

My parents always taught me that respect is a two-way street. In order for you to respect someone, they should respect you back. Mr. Trump has failed miserably at ever gaining my respect and the respect of millions of Americans. As a female, Trump has disrespected me. As a Latina, Trump has disrespected me, and as an American who believes in inclusion and equality, Trump has disrespected me.

Trump himself has said: “no one has the highest amount of respect for women than I do." Well, I have met many men who respect women and none of them go around saying it's okay to grab a woman by her private parts. Sure, Trump has a woman as his campaign manager but what about having women on his panel when deciding on funding for Planned Parenthood? No man, especially one like Mr. Trump, who has the lowest amount of respect for women, should ever be able to tell a woman what she can and cannot do with her body.

Trump himself has said that “Mexico only sends immigrants who are bringing drugs. Bringing crime. They're rapists." Well, Mr. Trump, tell that to Doctor Alfredo Quinones-Hinojosa who came to America illegally from Baja California, Mexico and now works as a neurosurgeon at Hopkins school of Medicine. He's not brining drugs or crimes and he sure isn’t a rapist. Dr. Quinones-Hinojosa is saving lives, American lives, even though Mr. Trump has pretty much said he isn’t welcome here. Again Dr. Quinones-Hinojosa is saving thousands of lives, tell me again how many lives Trump has saved?

I can go on and on about different groups of people that Trump has disrespected- Muslims, people in the LGBTQ community, people with disabilities, and many many more people. Although I don’t have a personal connection to all of these groups, my heart breaks for these people because being disrespected for simply being who you are is deplorable and goes against America’s values.

I respect the position of the president and the powers that come along with it. I respect that the president has the power to grant reprieves and pardons, serve as commander and chief, convene Congress in special sessions, and I respect any other powers granted to the president in the constitution.

However, I do not and will not respect Mr. Trump. Until Trump has tried to gain back the respect of the many people he has offended, he better get ready for a lot of backlash. However, without even realizing it, Trump has done something pretty spectacular. Trump is bringing together different groups of people from a variety of backgrounds and we have come together for one goal: RESIST.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
