She began her journey as little Gianna on Barney and Friends. Won us over as Mikayla on Hannah Montana, rivaling our favorite pop sensation Hannah Montana herself. Then Selena Gomez got the lead role of the ever rebellious Alex Russo on the tv series, Wizards of Waverly Place. Along with her talented acting skills, she also became a singing artist.

Selena is one of the few Disney stars that didn't turn to drugs or alcohol. Well I say this meaning that she didn't do drugs or alcohol enough for it ruin her life or diminish the love we have for her. Celebrities have this world apart from ours that is fast pace and highly demanding that sometimes puts pressure on the human underneath the star we know and love. So this leads to substance abuse in Hollywood. And I'm not saying that everyone in Hollywood is a substance abuser, it's just there have been a lot of them that has exploded and revealed to us how bad it really was.

But I need to stay on topic, this article is not about how celebrities get drunk or how high they get. This is about Selena Gomez and how she is stepping up by stepping down from the business. Selena was diagnosed with a serious disease called Lupus.

Lupus is an autoimmune disease where too many antibodies are produced; these antibodies then attack and inflame healthy cells and organs. This disease affects five million people worldwide. People with Lupus often experience fever, weight changes, joint stiffness, fatigue, heartburn and indigestion, along with depression and anxiety.

Selena Gomez recently decided to step down from working. She will be taking a break indefinitely right now because her health demands it. She has tried to balance everything out, but it is isn't working anymore. The actress needs to focus on taking care of herself. This is what she needs. Selena Gomez is an example to all of us that we need to take care of ourselves sometimes.

I respect Selena Gomez for stepping down, to knowing her limit to things. She can take all the time she needs to get better and when she comes back into the spotlight, it will be worth the time because she will be better than ever.

We need to remember that there is a 24 year old woman underneath the star we see on tv everyday or listen to her sing on the radio. She is only human. It is going to be ok for her to be selfish this time to get herself better. It is ok for us as humans to be a little selfish to make ourselves happy.

That is one thing that I am just learning this year. It is time for me to take care of myself. I need to make sure that I am taken care of. And so I applaud you, Selena Gomez. Please take care of yourself and we will still love you in your absence. Plus we will be very excited to see you again when you come back.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
