9 Resolutions Education Majors Should Make For the New Year

Whether it's personal or professional goals, everyone can improve themselves in the new year.

With the start of the new year, everyone is thinking about how they want to improve their habits in order to be the best version of themselves. For education majors, this means not only improving on a personal level but a professional level as well.

Try something new every week

This could be a new teaching style, or type of activity, or this could be something that only applies to you, like a new workout. Trying something new is a good way to make a simple change in your life, and by doing it every week, you're making sure to take advantage of all the opportunities that there are to learn something new.

Learn one new thing every day

As an education major, you're always learning. It's important to prioritize your learning in order to be the best future educator you can be. Learning something can be as simple as a fun fact, or something that you use every day for the rest of the year.

Ask for help more often

Education majors can tend to not want to ask for help as often as they could, especially student teachers in the classroom. Asking for help more often doesn't make you a weaker person, it shows that you know what your limits are. Asking for help more often is something that you can do to stress less in your life and improve yourself as a person.

Better self-care

Everyone always says that they're going to take better care of themselves during the new year, and for education majors, that's super important with everything that they undertake. Taking care of yourself is important, especially so you can have the best semester possible both physically and mentally.

Procrastinate less

Everyone procrastinates, especially college students. Procrastination leads to more stress later on in the semester, so this resolution is one that will make your semester and the rest of your life easier.

Teachers read a lot of student work and education majors read a lot for their classes, but neither really read for their own pleasure. Every year, I tell myself that I'm going to read more, but it never actually happens. I always want to spend more time reading,

Stay organized

Whether it be a room, apartment or classroom that needs organizing, knowing that your space is well organized makes everything a little bit better. Stress cleaning can be good stress relief, but if you don't need to be stressed when you do it, then it's even better.

Stress less

College can be stressful at times and it's important to do everything you can to maintain a low level of stress. To start the year and the semester on a positive note, trying to maintain a low level of stress. Sometimes this is easier said than done, but being less stressed helps improve your overall quality of life.

Push yourself outside of your comfort zone

In addition to trying new things, take it a step further and try something that you never would've before. Pushing out of your comfort zone makes you grow as a person and it helps you grow as a person too.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school.
