A Reminder For This College Semester: It's Okay To Mess Up

You don't need all that unnecessary stress.

Now I am not saying you should go into your new semester with a negative mindset waiting to fail all your classes. In fact, you should look forward to this fresh start, but sometimes the idea of getting that 4.0 goes over our heads.

I want to remind you that everybody is different. Some of us are visual learners, some of us don't know we are auditory learners and we stick with a visual routine. We all have procrastinated, but it's okay to give yourself a break and not wait until the last minute.

We go into the semesters with planners and extremely high expectations of ourselves that all of the sudden throughout the year, we mess up and that's okay. The most important thing that one can do is to give their one hundred percent in everything that they do.

I would much rather see my professors and ask questions, spend a little extra time with a study buddy to get the right answer than to finish my semester off knowing I did things halfway and ended up with mediocre grades.

The moment that you catch yourself feeling physically sick of everything on your plate, is the moment you need to step back, take a deep breath, and analyze what it is that needs to be fixed. Don't be afraid to ask for help, college is your journey and your ticket for the real world and your career.

If you are doing everything in your power to succeed and it just so happens that you have missed an assignment by not putting it in your journal, do it still and hand it in. The effort is much appreciated rather than just leaving everything as is.

It's all about managing your time wisely and looking out for yourself. There are days where life is too much and we need to take a breather. If you're not putting your effort and letting your emotions get the best of you, nothing will work.

The worst thing you can do is to compare yourself to others. Like I mentioned before, everybody is different and we all learn differently. If you want something badly, go get it and even if you mess up or don't get what it is that you want at least you gave it your all and it just wasn't meant for you. But you did try.

You, a college student that is reading this, please take the time to organize and to warn yourself beforehand of the dangers of comparison, procrastination, and lack of care for oneself. The ball is in your court and you can still play a good game.

It's great to want to aim for a 4.0, but if you are not putting in your work don't expect to get it. However, if you mess up along the way like we all do and you are trying your best, that's okay too.

Go and kill it this new semester, I believe in you!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
