Most of us know Christina Grimmie, 22, as a top three finalist on season six of NBC's "The Voice" on Team Adam. Others remember her from her Youtube channel 'zeldaxlove64'. Christina was shot on June 10 at her concert in Orlando, Florida, by a 27-year-old man during her meet and greet and died early the next morning on June 11. Everyone is calling her brother a hero due to the fact that he tackled the shooter, preventing him from hurting anyone else, and in the end, the shooter ended up taking his own life.
Christina was known for her re-composed covers on Youtube of hit songs. She played the piano in every video because she liked to put her own creative touch on the music instead of using a basic instrumental track. She had a voice that was insanely vibrant, and a unique sound that could give anyone goosebumps if they just sat back, closed their eyes and listened.
After releasing her first EP, 'Find Me', in 2011 and it reaching number 11 on Billboard's digital releases, she moved to LA to further pursue her music career. Another great accomplishment is that her EP debuted at number two on iTunes behind Adele's '19.' She also went on two Canadian/US tours with Selena Gomez as her opening act; this helped increase the size of her fanbase greatly as well as gave her experience in performing in front of large crowds and what it's like to have a successful music career. After Christina's time on "The Voice," she went on to open the 2015 iHeart Radio Music Festival in Las Vegas. Christina has also been nominated for a variety of awards for her musical talent as well as winning some of them.
Although I have never seen Christina perform live nor have I met her, she seems like the kind of person that could have a huge impact on anyone. Watching her Youtube videos, she was always so vibrant and happy. Anyone would be able to tell that she truly enjoyed music. I myself was so excited when I found out that she was auditioning for The Voice because her amazing musical talent was about to be shared with millions of others who had no idea who she was yet and who would learn to love her voice and who she was as a person as much as her original fans did. She made the final three and although she did not win, she was signed by a record label and her music career continued.
What happened to Christina was absolutely devastating and shocking. This whole situation can teach us all valuable lessons on gun violence as well as appreciating life. Christina was a girl who was hardworking, dedicated, loving, and full of life. She is the kind of person that everyone should look up to, someone we should all aspire to be. We should all appreciate what we have in life as well as the people in it, and we should all take the time to tell the people we love that we love them while we still have the chance. Gun violence is a growing problem in the world. I believe that guns are not the problem, but the people with the guns. Devastating occurrences like this put emphasis on how there should be extra steps taken before selling a gun to somebody, as well as an increase in security at concerts, night clubs, events of any size, etc.
The death of Christina Grimmie was wrong on so many levels. She had her whole life ahead of her, full of dreams and plans that she will never get to see happen. Her dream was just beginning to the fullest extent and Christina and her family were always so determined to make it happen. She was beginning to open concerts for big musical stars as well as smaller bands, increasing the size of fan bases for them as well as herself. Christina's friends, family, and fans have expressed their condolences as well as how they are feeling about Christina's passing on all social media platforms, including Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Selena Gomez, her brother Marcus, and fellow Youtubers who she has grown close to over the years, as well as many others. It has also been reported by Marcus that Levine has offered to cover the funeral expenses.
To all of Christina's friends, family, and fans, I am sincerely sorry for your loss of a loving, kind, talented young woman. I did not know her personally but I believe she would've had an even greater impact on my life if I did. She will live on through her music and videos as we cherish them to remember her. Rest in peace/paradise, Christina Victoria Grimmie. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Grimmie family in this devastating time.
