So it's no surprise if you live in the northern half of our country that it is now winter time. That means that it is time for the yearly reminder to drive according to the road conditions.

If it is snowing remember that under that snow the roads could be icy. If you are driving while it is snowing or right after the snow stops you should take it easy and make sure to give yourself room to stop.

Only drive as fast as you are comfortable with driving. If you aren't comfortable driving the speed limit then don't drive the speed limit. Winter roads can be a little rough sometimes.

Keep in mind that not every car has four-wheel drive so even if you do the car in front of you might be driving slow because their car isn't great in snow.

If it's the first snow of the year don't be afraid to go a little slower even if the roads don't call for it because it will give you a good chance to get re-adjusted to winter driving.

Make sure to have some kind of added weight in your car. I know this sounds crazy but if the roads are icy the added weight will help you so that you don't fishtail as much. So this could be as simple as going to the gas station and making sure that you always have at least a half tank of gas or more or it could be a little harder like going to a store and buying bricks to put in your trunk or the bed of your truck.

Don't tailgate because if the person in front of you has to slam on their brakes you won't have enough time to stop and if the road is icy you are going to rear end the person in front of you.

Remember the things that you got taught in drivers ed because trust me in the winter time you need that drivers ed knowledge to stay safe.

People only drive at the speeds they are comfortable driving at when the roads are a little iffy in the winter time and everyone should respect that. If you need to go around the person in front of you do that but don't tailgate them.

So remember to be respectful of the people in front of you even if they are going slow. Give yourself lots of space to stop because the roads could be icy and you just can't see it. And if you have to go out during a snow storm give yourself plenty of time to get to or from your destination.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
