By no means am I a self-proclaimed "feminist," but I would like to say that I also would never want to live during a time when women could not vote or it was abnormal for a woman to be in the work force. I find the act of voting empowering and it is something I believe should be taken advantage of by all, especially young women.
Two names that have been thrown around a great deal during this presidential campaign are Carly Fiorina and Hillary Clinton.
Fiorina, a Republican businesswoman from Austin, Texas, and former CEO of Hewlett Packard was the first woman to lead a Top-20 Company ranked by Forbes Magazine. Fiorina has been vocal on topics regarding immigration, homeland security and foreign policy.
Hillary Clinton on the other side is a Democrat from Chicago, Illinois who was a first lady during husband Bill Clinton's presidential term from 1993 to 2001. Clinton is striving toward greater equality for the LGBTQ community and has been vocal on topics of energy and oil and a more socialized education in the public schools.
As young women who are the future of America it is important that we learn from these two strong-willed women no matter what party their affiliation is. Women like Fiorina and Clinton are doing things that women would have never dreamed of 100 years ago or even 50 years ago. For us to live during a time when there is not one, but two women in the presidential election we should be encouraged by them and work to achieve the same greatness. So, thank you Carly Fiorina and Hillary Clinton for making us realize that just because the oval office has always been blue doesn't mean we can't paint it pink.
