The historic Red Rocks Amphitheater has been open since June 15, 1941. This geologically formed outdoor venue is like no other in the world. There are two, three-hundred foot sandstone monoliths that surround either side of the amphitheater, known as "Ship Rock" and "Creation Rock". This unique Amphitheater brings in the best bands and artists from around the world. I have the privilege of living in beautiful Colorado, and being able to drive just a few hours to this place, but people travel from far and wide to experience a dreamlike night at Red Rocks. With the rise of EDM, Red Rocks has brought in some amazing DJs and on June 18th, the duo Odesza, from Washington State, took the stage.
The evening started with openers Big Wild, Louis Futon, and RUFUS DU SOL. There is nothing like the sounds created within the monoliths. They seem to fill your body and no matter which row you are in, the view is spectacular. From the top of the amphitheater, the city lights of Denver can be seen, as well as the beautiful Rocky Mountains. As the sunset and darkness fell upon the rocks, Odesza opened their set with the sounds of drums and horns. The lights on stage flashed and the entire crowd began to dance. As the horns grew louder, everyone filled with bliss. I have never felt quite that way at any other venue. The show went for approximately an hour and a half, and there was never a dull moment. Surprise guests included the Colorado Symphony and the Colorado University drum line, which came together to create one of the best shows I have seen.
As I left the amphitheater, I watched the lights die down, and I realized how quickly it all ended and was ready to buy my tickets for the next show. There is no comparison to music under the stars and I would highly recommend attending a show at Red Rocks.
